Entering the Luxurious Worlds

Today we’re going to look at how some of the rich women in the Philippines live. We’ll look at their houses, cars, and even the things inside their bags. These things are simple and normal for them to live with but not for everyone. Let us enter their worlds as we first start with the most well-known politically-related women.

  1. Kris Aquino

Kristina Bernadette Cojuangco Aquino, also known as Kris Aquino, is a famous female celebrity and is a sibling of our former President Noynoy Aquino. Coming from a famous and filthy rich family, it is pretty obvious that she’s living a luxurious life. As of now, Kris Aquino has three homes in the country.

Having two elegant houses is enough but having another one is indeed astounding. Earning a lot of money from different ways can really make someone have those grand homes. Aside from being a famous actress, she is also one of the biggest endorsers of the huge companies in the country. It is like, the EDSA will not be complete without her face along with it. Even from having a break from showbiz career, she still do some online vlogging in which we all know, one can earn hundred thousands in one video. With her videos, people are still updated with her life. Aside from her TV and movie career, Aquino owns and manages several businesses. She co-owns Lena Restaurant and Sencillo, a Mexican restaurant, as well as Roberto Antonio, an upscale flower shop with business partner Boy Abunda. She also co-owns Sierra Madre Water. Aquino also owns numerous fast food store franchises such as Jollibee and Chowking and owns Nacho Bimby (aka Potato Corner) – a company that’s under his youngest son’s namesake.

Diving into her world will really take you a long time but if you want to know more about her, you can keep up with her instagram posts and videos.

2. Love Marie Escudero aka Heart Evangelista

If you are fond of YouTube blogs, for sure you have crossed watching one of her videos. Heart Evangelista is a known actress in the country, like Kris Aquino, she is also one of the biggest endorsers in the Philippines.

One of her YouTube videos made her show the things inside her “daily” bag. The things she bring with her in an ordinary day. Let us start with the first one.

According to her, Birkin bag in bubble gum pink is her favorite and it is what she use everyday. This bag costs almost or more 1 million pesos and for us, with that one million, we’ll buy it with cars and house but for her, it is just simply a daily bag.

Inside that bag is her favorite Chloe shades.

And this sunglasses costs around 15,000-20,000 pesos. She said that it is funky and at the same time it is cute that it fits any outfit she wears.

The next thing in her bag is her wallet with a brand of Christian Dior in Tonic Red Lambskin. A wallet of Christian Dior costs around 30,000 pesos.

According to her, she likes paying things with cash and not with her card. It is because with that she feels more the spending because she sees that she’s already losing money.

Next thing in her daily bag is her make up kit contained by a Louis Vuitton cosmetic pouch. It is filled with different expensive cosmetics which will not be included here because it’s too many.

The next thing in her bag, according to her, she always keeps a perfume in her bag. Her perfume is Acqua Di Colonia (S. Marie Novella Firenze 1612), which she got from her Milan trip. This perfume is approximately 10,000 pesos.

She said that she likes to change her perfume once in a while so she doesn’t get sick of the scent. Well, easy for a filthy rich woman to change everything once in a while but not for us common people.

Last thing in her bag is her phone which is Samsung Note 9, where she stores everything, her notes, messages, emails, and her sketches.

If you wish to look at everything in her bag, you can watch the full video on her YouTube blog. It is entitled as What’s In My Bag | Heart Evangelista.

That will be everything for today, stay tuned for more of luxurious lives! Next blog will be about the living of our own Miss Universe Philippines Pia Wurtzbach and Catrionay Gray.

Seven shoes that matter

by Raphael Bernardo

featuredimage2

Shoes are not just something that goes by unnoticed. In fact, it’s the first part of one’s outfit that is noticed by others. Shoes are just a small thing yet truly eye-catching. Let’s say a man wears an elegant suit and decides to wear flip flops with it. Then, it would give him a bland look. Shoes are that conspicuous.

Catching people’s attention, they should always look good. Giuseppe Zanotti once said that the power of shoes should never be underestimated. Such small things have weighty power.

Shoes are not needed to walk; anyone can walk with bare feet. But walking with bare feet is someone practically just wouldn’t try to do. Wherever one’s feet are, shoes should match his shirt and pants, and even guide him to the right path.

There are seven different shoes that every gentleman should own.

  1. Brogue shoes

Originating from the British Isles, these shoes have been making people look casual yet classy since the early 20th century. Anyone can wear brogue shoes with jeans and chinos, which actually gives a tinge of debonairness. Who said a man needs to wear a suit to make heads turn? Brogues can do it for you.

2. Black Oxford Shoes

Shoes

Having black makes one look like he means business. It is worn with formal outfits such as suits and tuxedos. Investing on these shoes is something you will never regret, because there will be a pair of these in your time of need. You need not have moments of hastily choosing shoes in a department store a few days before attending a formal event.

3. Loafers

Loafers

Are you having a hard time on making a decision as to which shoes you will wear with the shirt and pants you are wearing? Loafers are the most versatile shoes. They look good with slacks, jeans, shorts and even chinos. Aside from being versatile, there is no difficulty in wearing them. Simply slip your feet inside your loafers, then you’re good to go.

4. Sneakers

vans-lede.jpg

A pair of nice sneakers could make you look ten years younger. What’s wrong with being classic? It’s easy to walk with these kicks, and they last for years. No need to overuse your Oxfords and Loafers, because sneakers can withstand long walks.  These shoes look better with jeans and shorts, they feel comfortable to wear.

5. Chelsea boots

Chelsea boots was a hit during the 60s, popularised by the Beatles. Since then, the stylishness of Chelsea boots has proven to endure time. These ankle-high boots look stern, feels relaxing. Wearing suede Chelsea boots would look good with your jeans.

6. Dessert Boots

Carmina-polo-suede-chukka-boot.jpg

These boots look more like a combination of brogue shoes and Chelsea boots. It looks good with your casual outfits. Its beauty is different from those of the previous shoes, because these boots look like they were based on the appearance of working boots but added with a tinge of elegance.

7. Boat shoes

Ready to go for a summer vacation? Boat shoes give you a perfect summer look with your khaki shorts. Wearing boat shoes with khaki shorts adds elegance to the simplicity of one’s summer outfit.

The seven shoes will make your outfit stand out.  It is actually the first part noticed by others in one’s outfit. People don’t know that, because they are noticed subconsciously. Being subconsciously noticed first, it is important to wear these drop-dead shoes. After all, these shoes should guide a gentleman in his right path.

Miss Universe Philippines Catriona Gray showcases her stunning and captivating colorful national costume representing Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao at Nong Nooch Pattaya International Convention Exhibition in Thailand.

During her last interview with ABS-CBN, Catriona Gray promised to bring “the whole Philippines” with her during the national costume competition of Miss Universe 2018. The Philippines’ bet wears a costume designed by Jearson Demavivas who was also the one who made her Filipino costume for Binibining Pilipinas this year.

The costume represents Luzon (Magdiwang), Visayas (Lumaban) and Mindanao (Pagyamanin). The island group of Luzon is represented by the “Christmas lantern” from the province of Pampanga with a brass border designed and made in Apalit. And at the back of the Christmas lantern is a painting with inscription of the lyrics of “Lupang Hinirang”. The painting, a style inspired by the works of Philippine National Artist Carlos “Botong” Francisco, also exhibits the victories, events and renowned personalities or heroes.

The island group of Visayas is embodied through a body suit with authentic “tattoo designs” embellished with crystals. It is derived from the patterns used by the Pintados who are known to be the native people in the Philippines. The patterns in the tattoo, based from the manuscript called “Boxer Codex”, represent the journey and public testimony of an individual showcasing the Filipino spirit to be courageous and resilient.

The island group of Mindanao is showcased by an authentic “head piece and brass accessories” made from South Cotabato and customized “knee-high boots” with a design that is inspired by various native textile patterns from Mindanao. These textiles express a strong belief in “ancestral and natural spirits” as well as “cultural roots” of the indigenous communities.

However, even though the lights on Catriona Gray’s costume did not work, Filipinos are still proud that she pulled off the contest. Despite of this malfunction, Catriona Gray still shared her costume through a post on Instagram and ended it by saying “Pilipinas, para sa iyo ang lahat ng ito.”

The most-awaited return of the Balangiga bells

by: Isabella Cabrera    December 13, 2018

Last December 11, 2018, a US Air Force plane bearing the three historic Balangiga bells from San Lorenzo de Martir Church will set foot in its home, the Philippines after 117 years.  Former presidents, cabinet secretaries, historians, and philanthropists have worked tirelessly to bring the said bells home. Their love and dedication to the country have paid off for the grand return of the Balangiga bells.

A big thanks to Secretary Mattis for his intent in returning the bells until the successful turnover of the bells to Samar, Philippines. From World War II to today’s battle with terrorism, American and Filipino soldiers have fought together even in times of adversity. This decision of bringing them home signifies the consistency of values between the Americans and the Filipinos. According to the Hon. Sun Kim, the US Ambassador to the Philippines, such act will deepen the respect and commitment of both nations as close friends and allies.

President Duterte made his first call to return the Balangiga bells during his 2nd SONA in 2017. Spokesperson Panelo announced that the president will share this milestone with the Bisayas in Eastern Samar as he joins the handover of the Balangiga bells on December 15.

May this be a reminder to future generations how strong of a friendship the Americans and Filipinos have.

THEN AND NOW: THE COMEBACK OF RETRO FASHION

by Kyrah Irish Porras

We usually say that history repeats itself, well, definitely!  We say fashion keeps repeating itself.  Instead of being about itself, the 2000s has been the revival and evolution of past fashion trends. As fleeting as stars, trends still really have a way of coming back. It may take years, and sometimes decades, but fashion trends are cyclical, and the return of retro fashion is inevitable. Thanks to ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s fashion trends, as we see the vintage vibes continue in full force this 2018.

And for this year’s top trends, let’s start with the Seventies!

The 1970s is considered as the most revisited decade for fashion trends, thanks to its unique and vibrant style. It was also during this era that women had the freedom to enjoy expressing their identities with clothing and accessories.

  1. WIDE LEG TROUSERS AND FLORAL PATTERNS

When we think of the Seventies, the first thing that comes to our minds are wide-leg trousers. This style can work for office, dinners, party, and even for casual events. Wide-leg trousers nail it when paired with a high-waist finish and a tight-fitting top as it helps in slimming the waist and elongating one’s form. Floral patterns were also a hit! Tropical and floral patterns were a mirror of travel inspirations and destinations around the world.

Here we see Liz Uy, hitting two birds with one stone as she wears her bell bottoms with tropical prints.

  1. OFF-SHOULDER TOPS

In this tropical climate, shoulder-baring style is the key! Off-shoulder classics was a key item during the ‘80s. This style is still selling like wildfire in today’s clothing stores. Off-shoulder tops give a feminine touch and makes one look flattering. Indeed, it is a foolproof fashion formula.

CHIEnm

Partner off your off-shoulder top with a denim shorts and add a layer of accessory by wearing a choker.

  1. CROP TOPS

During the 1990s, it was the fashion era for youth which offered carefree styles. One of the famous trends are crop tops which is a go-to look if you want a killer look for a Friday night out! You can pair your crop top with a loose skirt or high-waisted pants, maxi- or midi-length skirt looks lovely with a short, fitted crop top for a flattering look for all body types!

Indeed, retro fashion is a timeless trend. Retro fashion is proving itself that it is not here to make its comeback, but it has made its return to stay and once again dominate the fashion trends.

“Tiger claws” failed to reign as the University of Santo Tomas’ Salinggawi Dance Troupe missed their podium finish in the UAAP Season 81’s Cheerdance Competition last November 17, 2018 in the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City.

The Salinggawi channeled their ‘inner-divas’ in this year’s routine, featuring songs and visuals from the famous pop star, Beyonce. The team pulled off challenging stunts, high-flying tosses, and towering pyramids while dancing to the beat of Beyonce’s chart-topping hits.

LRM_EXPORT_120311272021697_20181117_165015850

The tigers may have turned the crowd wild but they placed in fourth place behind the Adamson Pep Squad by a slight 0.5 points with their Lion King-themed routine. FEU Cheering Squad made a bridesmaid finish as they serve us with their “fun and funky” 70s performance. Emerging as champions, the NU Pep Squad came back “from the dead” with Mexico’s Day of the Dead-inspired routine, featuring songs from Disney Pixar’s film “Coco”.

UST Salinggawi’s head coach, Mark Chaiwalla, expressed his stance after the said competition. He felt disappointed with the small difference between the team and the third placer, but he is still contented with what Salinggawi presented.

“I’m okay with it because after the performance I was really happy just with the performance itself”, Chaiwalla said.

With conviction, Chaiwalla promised that the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe would come back stronger and ‘hungrier’ on the next UAAP season.

The UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe is a strong contender in the cheerdance scene of the league. Garnering eight gold medals with a ‘five-peat’ championship in the whole run of the UAAP Cheerdance Competition.
